Pakistan cricket team is out of the T20 World Cup 2024 as they failed to qualify for the Super 8 round of the event.
Babar Azam and Co. had lost two of their three group games against the USA and India but then went on to win against Canada.
To qualify for the Super 8 round, Pakistan needed the USA to defeat Ireland in their encounter on June 14 but the match kept delaying due to a wet outfield and in the end, it was altogether cancelled due to rain.
If the USA had managed to defeat Ireland, then Pakistan would have needed to win however, the hopes were dashed.
Former cricketers have come to analyse and comment on Pakistan’s disqualification from the T20 World Cup 2024 including former captain, Misbah-ul-Haq who believes Pakistan should have won one of their first two games.
“This can happen to any team but the biggest disappointment is that both of the matches (against USA and India) were in the hands of Pakistan. We made mistakes in the first match and that is okay, you make mistakes in one match but we needed to rectify those mistakes not repeat them again and again,” the former captain stated while talking on a sports channel.
Misbah also claimed that winning against India was an easy thing to do as it was a run-a-ball match and defeating them would have been a huge achievement for Pakistan.
“In the next match (against India) we had an amazing opportunity to cover all of the mistakes we made against Canada. It was a good opportunity that too against one of the top teams, India. We were at a stage in the match where everything was in our hands and winning against India would have been a massive achievement and this team has done so (in 2021 T20 World Cup),” he added.
The former captain also stated that mistakes are part of the game but repeating those mistakes and then claiming that other factors resulted in losing games is of no point.
“But then we played so disappointing cricket which was not expected from us. It is a normal thing to make mistakes and it is a part of the game not to make those mistakes again and again where you had the opportunity of run-a-ball and you had wickets in hand but you still lost then there is no point in saying that this and that happened or it rained,” Misbah stated.
“We made difficulties for ourselves by losing those first two matches. We should have won at least one of them at any cost,” the former skipper concluded.
Pakistan has one more match to play against Ireland on June 16 at the rain struck Florida and then the team will fly home.
